Hey guys! I found a Miata!

Kinja'd!!!

Not just any Miata. I found what is arguably the most famous Miata on the internet right now. Yes, I found the Miata! The one made famous by this video:

Here she sits, just waiting for rescue.

Kinja'd!!!

Sadly, I doubt she will be saved.

If the water didn’t destroy her, the smell surely will. This whole area smells like dead fish in a swamp.

Kinja'd!!! Kinja'd!!!

Any takers?

Panic can make you forget how to do things.

The NA Miata has a manual folding soft top that can be operated with one hand. Had she had her wits about her, that woman would easily have been able to get herself and her dog out of the car. But in such an extreme situation, I can definitely see why she forgot about that roof.

I feel like if you own a Miata, you should probably be able to remember that it’s a Miata, but I’ve also never been flooded in before...

It wasn’t her car. In a weird game of less-than-six-degrees-of-separation, I have a connection to this lady. She is the girlfriend of the owner of the car who is the former father-in-law of my wife’s cousin. All that is to say that the rescued woman didn’t own the car and likely didn’t know how to operate the top.

it could be worse. one corvette owner got locked in his corvette because the battery died and it only has push button openers. there is an emergency release hidden underneath but he completely forgot about the targa and stayed inside until he died from heat exhaustion

$200 to owner/insurance

$10,000 to flyin Miata

Months of work.

Not a bad deal for a custom sports car....

I read about that one. That fellow had a long time to think about how to escape and still didn’t make it.

I’m pretty sure you’d have to drive it into a swimming pool full of bleach to get the smell out, even if the car was gutted. It was all I could do to roll down the window to take a few pictures. This is a backwater flooding area, so there wasn’t a current to wash out the stench.

Makes sense. Sorry, video won’t play for me for some reason, so I just have the static pictures.

Totally reposting those pics and linking to this post over on Miata.net. A few members have been wondering about the condition of the Miata...heck, one of them thinks it might be his former NA.
